"Keep looking up!  There may be a rainbow waiting for you!" ~~ Anoyn.

Everyone is settling in nicely after the holiday break.  We took our STAR Reading tests on Friday and will take our STAR Math tests on Tuesday.

This week we are excited to start our unit on Simple Machines!  The students and I are going to love this unit.  We will explore force and motion along with Rube Goldberg mechanisms, inclined plane, lever, pulley, screw, wedge, and wheel and axel.  We will have some exciting experiments happening during the upcoming weeks.

In Literacy, our new Journeys unit is on inventions.  The anchor text is titled Young Thomas Edison.  Spelling will include words with au, aw, al, and o (the vowel sound in the word talk).  In grammar, we will be studying subject and object pronouns.  We will continue working on opinion writing.  We will begin a new spelling lesson on Tuesday.  Students should complete 4 spelling choices and will have a spelling test the following Tuesday (January 23).

In Math, we will be starting Unit 5 (Fractions and Multiplication Strategies).  The students are all well on their way to using multiplication strategies.  They are quickly learning all the facts and are getting faster and faster with recall.  I'm so proud of them!  You can continue practicing math facts at home.
